My Doc Martens

About the boot:
Dr. Martens footwear began in Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens had a skiing accident injuring his foot. To aid his walking whilst it healed, he, together with his engineer friend Dr. Funck, set about designing a shoe with an air cushioned sole. The result was the first Dr. Maertens shoe, which not only solved the doctors' immediate problem, but began to sell well in Germany.

This success prompted the two doctors to decide that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes in other parts of the world, and for this purpose they chose a company located in the English village of Wollaston, and part of the R. Griggs Group - known in England for fine craftsmanship in the production of working and army boots. The first boot, code named '1460' came off the production line in 1960 and for simplicity's sake the name Dr. Maertens was anglicised to Dr. Martens.

No other brand has epitomised youth street culture over the last 35 years more than Dr. Martens and the brand has achieved the status of fashion icon that others would pay millions for.
